The Acoustic Vortex is rapidly becoming the center (vortex?) of the Marin County acoustic music scene. It's a house concert series, but it's also a nonprofit promoting youth performance, benefit concerts for other nonprofits, and general reverance and revelry wherever good acoustic music can be found. We're thrilled to be sharing a show for the first time with our good Southern California friends, Luke Halpin and Stephanie Bettman, who are amazing instrumentalists, singers and songwriters. Blistering fiddle and mandolin, sweet clear vocals, and an old-fashioned song sensibility make them irresistable.

Googie's is a funky upstairs performance space at The Living Room, a lower East Side bar. New York Magazine says it "makes for an endearingly ramshackle performance space, complete with musty curtains, scattered holiday lighting, and an ivory-white baby grand." Extreme casualness ensues. We've been there a couple of times and surprisingly, seen some great acoustic acts. There's another stage downstairs, there are huge sound-sucking curtains everywhere, and the bar's in the front where you can get a drink in relative quiet. Each act plays one set, passes the hat, and out they go. If we can make it there . . .
